Riga public transport carried 118.5 million passengers in 2025
In 2025, Riga public transport carried 118 491 909 passengers, which is 2.2% more than in 2024. The upward trend in passenger numbers was observed throughout the year. The highest number of passengers in 2025 was carried by buses, while the most popular route and mode of transport was tram route 1.
Breakdown of passengers carried by mode of transport in 2025:
- Buses – 52 350 406
- Trolleybuses – 40 072 550
- Trams – 26 068 953
When analysing the most popular routes for each mode of transport, tram route 1 was the leader, with 12 228 050 passengers using it during the year. Among bus routes, the most popular was bus route 3 with 7 452 372 passengers, while in trolleybus traffic, the highest demand was for route 15, which was used by 6 395 696 passengers.
An increase in passenger numbers was also observed at the end of the year – in December 2025, 9 595 273 passengers were transported by public transport, which is 2.7% more than in December 2024.
In 2025, there was also an increase in the number of ticket inspections carried out on public transport and the number of fare dodgers caught. In 2025, a total of 288 443 inspections were carried out, during which 44 717 fare dodgers were detected. To compare, in 2024, 39 889 passengers were fined for traveling without a ticket.
